Read Along with Google Home Mini

Framestore Pictures teamed up with 72andSunny to bring Google Home Mini’s Little Golden Books read-along function to life, with some added magic of Disney. Directed by Murray Butler, the spot shows Google Home Mini springing to life as a father reads his son the book of Coco, playing music and sounds on cue, and immersing the two in the story.

To evoke the mood of Coco and the storytelling experience, the team at Framestore used the color palette and lighting schemes from the film, incorporating one of the movie’s central motifs - the marigold petals. As the father begins the book, the lighting changes and golden petals dance around the living room. When the young son interrupts his father, the petals idle in the air, filling the room and viewer with a sense of tension and anticipation, only to return in force with the story and sounds of the Google Home Mini. The careful use of color and visual effects make the experience real not only for the family, but the viewer as well. Butler’s ability to draw out truly authentic excitement from the young son, alongside the complementary visual cues, creates an infectious sense of awe. The final spot captures the nostalgic feeling of the bedtime story, while invoking a magical sense of wonder.
