Framing 20 Years in NY with Tara Maloney

To mark two decades of Framestore in New York, we're highlighting the talent behind the studio's success. We spoke with members of our New York team across disciplines to reflect on the studio's legacy, their favorite projects, and what makes the Big Apple such a special place to create.

Kicking off the series, meet Tara Maloney, Head of Studio in New York.

What’s your favorite borough or neighborhood in NYC? Why?

My favorite borough of NYC will always be The Bronx. Growing up here you learn early on that it's more than just a borough—it's a community with deep roots, culture, and heart. A place where you always feel connected to a history of creativity and self-expression - and where the pizza will never let you down.

In your opinion, what project or milestone represents the Framestore New York office’s legacy and why?

Along with celebrating 20 years in NY, Framestore proudly marks two decades of partnering with GEICO and The Martin Agency on the world’s favorite green lizard, the Gecko. For the Super Bowl season this year we had the joy of creating a 15-minute mockumentary called 'Legend of the Lizard', detailing the Gecko’s journey and how he became the icon he is today.

Our clients have entrusted us to deliver the very best creative output. What has set Framestore apart from the competition for 20 years?

What really sets us apart is the passion of the amazing people who work here. Their dedication to creativity and excellence is at the heart of everything we do. Our team genuinely cares about the success of each project and approaches every new creative challenge with a strong sense of responsibility. By combining that passion with our technical expertise and our commitment to building strong client relationships, we’ve earned a reputation as a trusted creative partner over the years.

What’s your favorite project that you’ve worked on at Framestore?

It’s hard to single out just one project but I do have a bit of a soft spot for Netflix's live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Helping to bring the iconic creatures of the Avatar universe to life was both a thrilling challenge and an unforgettable experience for our entire team. Every detail, from their nuanced expressions to their dynamic movements, required an immense amount of care and collaboration. Seeing both longtime fans and new audiences embrace them was incredibly rewarding.
