Superman: 4D Gaussian Splatting Holograms
Join CG Supervisor Kevin Sears as he dives into the latest advancements in radiance field technologies used in Superman.
Superman utilizes the latest advancements in radiance field technologies to create Holographic visual effects by capturing volumetric data of actor performances. The emerging technique was used for the first time ever in a feature film to create an unstable, holographic message from Superman's Kryptonian parents; a core story point that required significant emotional impact.
Gaussian Splatting is an explicit, point-based radiance field that utilizes millions of tiny, anisotropic shapes to model light and volume. The addition of Actors requires 4D Gaussian Splats to train 11.000 images per second to form a unique cloud of points into photorealistic performances.
Presented by Computer Graphic Supervisor, Kevin Sears, this webinar will explore the goals and approach to this implementation in the film. A brief overview of the tech for 4DGS will be followed by a full timeline, from concept to final film, showcasing the close collaboration with Infinite Realities and Framestore studios in achieving this unique process to capture and visualize this pioneering effect!
