Dumbo: Art Department
Framestore's in-house art department was pleased to help visualise 'Dreamland' in visionary director Tim Burton’s grand live-action adventure Dumbo.
Equipped with ferris wheels, roller coasters and circus tents, the team developed numerous concepts of the construction and destruction of the lavish theme park environment.
Large Panoramic
"It was exciting to be involved with such an iconic Director in helping to design how the park would look. Achieving the right tone and exploring various lighting was really interesting especially when we started to add fire and had to convey the sense of destruction, it evolved into another tonal image. There's so much detail in the image which helped bring it to life and made it hugely rewarding to work on." Thomas du Crest, Concept Artist.
Apartment 0580
"This was a great building to have the chance to work on, we had a sketch from Tim Burton with instructions as to what he was envisioning and it felt very collaborative. To develop such a multilayered and visually fascinating building was really engaging." Thomas du Crest, Concept Artist.
Dreamland Boulevard
"A lot of consideration was put in to how the buildings would burn and be destroyed which made the task really interesting. Having the opportunity to finish a concept then to take it further through to it being destroyed was unusual but hugely enjoyable and made the scene come to life. This image became a 360 concept so Tim Burton and his team could use it interactively on set." Rostyslav Zagornov, Concept Artist.
