The Midnight Sky in IndieWire
Framestore VFX Supervisor Graham Page and Animation Supervisor Max Solomon sat down with IndieWire to discuss the Oscar-nominated VFX work of George Clooney's post-apocalyptic drama The Midnight Sky.
When creating the 'Ballet of Blood' sequence which features an injured astronaut inside an airlock, the team were presented with a unique challenge. With so much CG blood in the scene, it made sense to replace much of the environment, including the other characters, which were all added back in by hand.
And then came the challenge of the blood itself - the size, colour and viscosity of the dancing droplets had to stay true to the science, and strike the right tone. IndieWire's Bill Desowitz states "If Clooney's sci-fi adventure wins the VFX Oscar, it'll be because of Framestore's brilliant dancing blood in zero-G."
