Annie Award Nominations
We're delighted to share the news that Framestore has been nominated for two Annie Awards.
Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made (Disney+) has been nominated for Best Character Animation - Live Action for our work on Total, the 1,500 pound polar bear.
VFX Post-Covid in CR
Lottie Cooper, Managing Director for advertising and immersive spoke to Creative Review this week to talk about how a creative studio like Framestore moved to a working from home set up and how she thinks a post-covid world will impact the industry.
Talking in the article 'How the VFX industry will thrive post-Covid', Lottie spoke about the impact of the last year, explaining “our productivity didn’t dip much, apart from the time it took to get crew online. We were really pleased at the number of projects we delivered remotely to schedule.”
12 VES nominations
We're thrilled to announce that Framestore has been nominated for 12 awards at the upcoming VES Awards, a programme that recognises and honours the most outstanding visual effects work of the year and honours the artists who created them.

Real-Time Appointments
Grant Bolton and Alberto Aguado join the Framestore engine team as Lead Technical Director and Principal Engineer, becoming key players in our latest innovative real-time projects.
As game engine technology is used more than ever in the media production industries to create faster VFX workflows and virtual production toolkits, the new appointments to the team demonstrate8 the creative studio’s commitment to hiring the best in the business when it comes to real-time expertise.
Oscar Shortlist 2021
The shortlist for the 2021 ‘Best Visual Effects’ Academy Award includes two titles featuring Framestore’s world-class VFX work. They are:
- The Midnight Sky (featuring Framestore VFX Supervisor Chris Lawrence and Animation Supervisor Max Solomon)

With the pandemic still affecting the way we work across the industry in 2021 we will be continuing with our virtual Launchpad Competition again this year to replace our usual Summer Internship programme
His House wins a BIFA
We want to share a huge congratulations to the winners of the craft categories for the BIFAs. Among those winners was our team, awarded the Best Effects award for their work on the unsettling Netflix horror film 'His House'.
Talking about the award win, our very own Pedro Sabrosa who was the film's overall VFX Supervisor said: 'It's amazing for our work to be recognised on a film which we were so creatively involved in. It was both a challenging and a rewarding project and the whole team is really proud.'
Announcing FUSE in THR
Last week Framestore Chief Creative Officer Tim Webber and VFX Supervisor Theo Jones spoke to The Hollywood Reporter’s Carolyn Giardina to announce our new project FUSE; the Framestore Unreal Shot Engine.
Unveiling details for the first time to the industry magazine and website, Tim and Theo spoke to Carolyn about a film that’s being produced under the year-plus long project which will be done entirely using a brand new VFX pipeline driven by Epic Game’s Unreal Engine.
The Midnight Sky Panel
Last week the Visual Effects Society hosted a panel on Netflix's The Midnight Sky, featuring Director George Clooney, VFX Supervisor Matt Kasmir & Framestore VFX Supervisor, Chris Lawrence. The group talked about creating digital faces, the use of LED panels and pre-vis, and how technology has changed over time. Flora & Ulysses
Say hello to our latest superhero.
Based on New York Times bestselling author Kate DiCamillo's children novel Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures, the film follows 10-year-old Flora (played by Matilda Lawler) and her journey in protecting her superhero CG squirrel named Ulysses.
Directed by Lena Khan (The Tiger Hunter) and produced by Academy Award nominee Gil Netter (Life of Pi, The Blind Side) the film is set to release on Disney+ February 19th.
